So our final destination for the trip was to Hole-in-the-Rock at Lake Powell. Before we took the trip, I honestly had no idea where we were headed to so once Jaron told me that we would end up at the Lake I was super excited. However, once we got there, it made me have "summer fever" so bad it was rediculous! I cant wait till it warms up enough to go boating!!
For those of you who are not familiar with this historical site, it is a place where the pioneers had to pass through on their journey to move to the lower Utah/upper Arizona area and settle new places. I was just amazed that they made it across the desert to begin with but once we got to the actual area and I saw what they had to go through....I gained a lot more respect for them.
Keep in mind that the actual Lake Powell was not there at the time and it was still just a river so they had to take their wagons down this "canyon". Not just handcarts....wagons! (if you enlarge the upper pic you can get whole story) But they ended up lowering the wagons down the side walls of the canyon by rope and blastin certain areas with dynamite to be able to get all the way down. Amazing!
This was some of the road we went over to get there....the entire way was horrible but well worth the drive. toward the end like this pic it was just like driving in Moab over the slick rock. Kind of scary!!
Getting a bit closer to our destination. Notice the "V" in the mountain. That's it.
Getting closer...
And we are here.....
Nice pic of Colton.
